Our Proud History

Mortdale Physical Culture Club has a proud history within the Mortdale and Oatley communities  and BjP Physical Culture. It is one of the longest standing clubs in the St George area. Check out our history below

Mrs Sylvia Leach was the teacher and classes were held in the St Peters Church Hall
Mrs Hazel Lane took over as teacher and the club was known as the Mortdale Sunshine club
Our 'Most Improved' perpetual trophy was first awarded

Mrs Phyllis Bevan took over a the teacher and the uniforms were mauve and we wore black ballets
Nola Hellyer began teaching at Mortdale
Tunics moved aside to make way for leotards
Ballets were packed away in favour of bare feet

We moved our Thursday night classes from the Mortdale Masonic Hall to Penshurst West Public School
We again moved our Thursday lessons from Penshurst West Public School to Oatley Public School

Tanning, costume make-up and elaborate hair styles were removed for junior girls in favour of a more natural look
Mortdale Physie performed for the first time at the Sydney Royal Easter Show

Mortdale Physie celebrated a milestone with our Aunty Nola celebrating 50 years teaching at the club and our 11-12 year team winning first place overall in Championship Grade

Mortdale Physie has had a wide number of successes including individual and team champions, but our very best is when a former member returns to Mortdale Physical Culture Club (sometimes from many suburbs away) to enrol her daughter in our club to be taught physie by our 'Aunty Nola'.
